I AM OVER THE AGE OF 20. CAN I TAKE COURSES AT BEYOND WALLS OUTREACH SCHOOL? You are NEVER too old to take a High School course at BWOS. Alberta Education defines an “adult student” as any student who is 20 years of age or older on September 1 of the current school year. To register with BWOS, you must be a resident of Alberta and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. WHAT IS THE COST OF EACH COURSE? IS FUNDING AVAILABLE? The cost of each five credit core course is $500.00 (+ a $50.00 refundable book deposit). Adult students can apply for the Skills Investment Bursary (SIP) through Alberta Works. Download and complete the SIB Application. There is a section on the SIP for the BWOS administrator to complete, so book an appointment discuss your courses and timeline. From there you will submit your bursary application to Alberta Works and wait for the decision. Alberta Works will take a minimum of 10 weeks to review your application. DO I ATTEND CLASSES AT BWOS? No. All of our courses are delivered via correspondence materials (online and/or print materials). The staff at BWOS provides assistance for our students. WHERE DO I GET MY TEXTBOOKS/MATERIALS FROM? Our Adult Students pay a $50.00 refundable book deposit. BWOS provides textbooks, modules and applicable online resources. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE MY COURSE? We recommend students take five months to complete each course (equivalent to one semester), but that time line is flexible. For the courses that require a Diploma Exam, your timeline will be based on the Diploma Dates (January, April, June, August or November). Call BWOS at 403-526-4156 and book an appointment.
